Client Challenge:

KB’s pond was in a state of severe neglect. The water was stagnant, murky, and lifeless, resulting in ill fish and a lack of oxygen. The filtration system had been unused for over two years, and the pond had no circulation, leaving it unfit for aquatic life.

Our Assessment:

During our inspection, we identified the following issues:

The filtration system wasn’t outdated but lacked the correct media and had not been properly maintained for over two years.
The construction of the UV systems was incorrect, with worn-out UV lamps/quartz due to age and improperly installed O-rings, washers, and nuts causing leaks.
Insufficient pipe size for both the pond and the filter.
A shelf area within the pond floor contained a disused bog filter buried under a foot of sludge and uncontrolled weeds. The bog filter wasn’t connected to any pump, and the pipework was too small to sustain water pressure, even if a pump had been present.
There was no functional circulation, which contributed to poor oxygenation and water clarity. While circulation aids in maintaining clarity, the primary issue stemmed from toxins in the water due to the filtration system.

Our Solution:

We implemented a comprehensive restoration plan, including:

New Filtration System: Installed a high-quality filtration system tailored to the pond’s size and specific needs.
Advanced Pipework and Pumps: Added new pipework and installed pumps with multi-level jets to improve circulation and oxygenation.
Aquatic Plants: Cleaned and replanted the client’s original lilies within the bog filter. While lilies are primarily an aesthetic feature, they were incorporated into the restored bog filter area.
Fish Medication: Treated the ill fish with targeted medications to restore their health.
Aesthetic Enhancements: Added a fountain as a water feature to create a visually striking centerpiece.

The Outcome:

The pond was completely revitalized into a thriving aquatic environment. The water became clear, the fish regained health, and the new fountain added a dynamic, elegant touch to the space. KB’s pond transformed into a vibrant focal point for their garden.
